Could AI Evolve on Its Own?

Imagine waking up in a world where machines don’t just follow the commands we give it but that they learn, adapt and evolve on their own. I think of most people this will be unsettling and something from a science fiction film, but is very likely the vision of the future with the discussion happening among scientists, ethicists and futurists.
